Department of Apparel Manufacturing Management & Technology

The academic programmes in Apparel Manufacturing and Management are among the largest programmes in the country and the department is widely reputed to be the pioneering department which produces successful professionals for the apparel industry.

A career in any aspect of Apparel Industry is very challenging with a very responsible integrated role within the complex, exhilarating, global and risky nature of the Fashion, Textile and retail industries world-wide. The various managerial positions within the apparel industry requires creative direction, working with team spirit to develop appropriate, innovative, commercially viable clothing for tomorrow's fast changing world markets. Due to the global nature of the industries involved, clothes made in Bangladesh, from textiles sourced locally and from across the world, are then subsequently exported all over the globe. This system requires Managers at all stages of the process to be informed on a wide range of issues such as global commerce, market forces, consumer information, cultural awareness and 'state of the art' design and technology. Fluency in English is absolutely essential and a knowledge of your competitors language 'Chinese" may also prove useful.

Our programmes are designed by local and foreign experts and have strong linkage to the demands of the industry. We have corporate practitioners as guest faculty members who provide students with valuable industry insights. The department is equipped with lab facilities for textile, patternmaking, sewing and computing. Students are also given hands-on industry training in manufacturing at our associate organizations, such as Shanto-Mariam Fashions Limited, Creative the Art Mall and Shanto-Mariam Knit Composite and are required to complete internship in the industry.
